Some strange things happen concerning car burglar alarms. When I was down in Puerto Rico, while in the Navy, I went to San Juan Airport to pick up a brother-in-law visiting a few days. As I was leaving the airport, there was a car alarm going off with two big guys ripping off a battery from a car. There were people just standing there watching. Go figure!
Another instance,a bird lands on an expensive car and the burglar alarm went off. Perhaps maybe the wind would set it off, who knows for sure? I do know that it would be annoying to people within hearing distance. They just might ignore the fact, someone really is breaking into the automobile.
There are passive types of deterrents that work to keep your car from being driven away. There is “The club” for instance. Some people swear by it. However, using a good hacksaw on a steering-wheel and the club or some other preventive measure of the same type is released from the damaged steering wheel. The car can still be driven away.
There are also more exotic ways to protect you car from would be car thieves. Take for instance key activated brake locking system. There is a valve that can be installed between the master cylinder and the brakes which allows you to set a locking system preventing the automobile from being driven away.
There is a key activated fuel shutoff valve that can be installed between the gas tank and the engine. As you know, if a engine has no fuel, it can’t be driven.
An electrical kill switch can be installed to prevent the engine from starting. It like the other system mentioned here are a little bothersome but effective.
I have used a device called AutoLock. This non-passive burglar deterrent made from cold steel. It fits around the brake or clutch peddle and a foot slides to the floor and locks. You can drill the lock out, freeze the lock with liquid nitrogen and shatter the lock and it still holds. Oh yes, you can use a hack saw and cut for a few hours and maybe cut through it . The only way a vehicle with AutoLock can be stolen is if you pull it up on a wrecker. There are not many thieves who are willing to stick around that long to steal a car. They will simply find an easier target.
