Installation of Car Alarm

The installation of a car alarm can be quite interesting and one can successfully do it without any professional assistance. To do this a number of equipment should be present such as a knife, soldier material, screws, test light, scissors, drill tie wrap, screw bit, mounting tape which is double sided, voltage meter and a soldiering meter. Most important however, is the installation manual which gives a guideline on how to assemble each component of the car alarm. Therefore, caution should be taken to ensure that what is being done is per the manual direction which usually comes with the car alarm.

This is because there are a variety of car models and in most instances each of these models has its own unique lock and door and hence the need for a help line from the manufacturer arises. Aside from the manual, there should be a contact reference which one can use to question the type of locking system a car has. One can also confirm the connection details of the wires according to the colors so that the interface suits the alarm’s locking characteristics. Installation details of the relay which is meant for the door lock and wire color for the starter disable should be clearly understood .It is also important for installer to be well aware on how to hook the relay up and use the voltmeter set up whose sole purpose is to test the door lock wires for the car.

The first step of the car alarm installation calls for ensuring that the segment system is working as it was intended to. The siren should be mounted on a solid metal surface right under the hood. After this is done, point the siren horn towards the ground to prevent moisture from collecting from within. A hole is then drilled by a gommet made of rubber in the car firewall and then the siren wire is passed into the hole to the car’s passenger compartment. After that the alarm power should be connected directly to the car battery and a fuse put on the power wire which resides beside the battery. The installer should take note of the fuse size which is indicated on the installation manual and mount shock sensors. Once this is done, a hole is drilled in the dash board, where the LED status is indicated and the LED wire passed through it. Thereafter, place a double sided mounting side from the LED’s back which should then be placed on the dash hole.

The installer should then locate the wires which are responsible for making the power door locks work and connect them to lock or unlock wires and the alarm wire according to the technician advice. Find the wire that enables the courtesy light to turn on should the alarm have current sensing then connect it to the alarm. If the alarm lacks voltage sensing, find the factory door triggers and connect it to the alarm. The steering column under the starters should then be cut and the starter disable relay connected. Having completed this, the valet should be mounted below the dash then ensure the output and input alarm module connections have been done well. Finally mount the module on a sturdy surface then screw it. Tie wraps will help secure harness wires. The alarm should then be armed to test if it is performing well. With do-it-yourself tips on how to install a car alarm, installation is quite an easy task.
