A Very Easy and Cheap Way to Keep Your Car From Getting Stolen

Lets face it, car thieves suck. When it comes to owning an inexpensive or older model vehicle we can be more vulnerable to thieves. This situation occurs not only because older vehicles have less sophisticated security systems, but also because mainstream and older model cars can be easier to “fence” or sell off after being stolen.

So if your looking for a little extra protection that will probably thwart almost any potential car thief here is a quick how-to.

Use a Fuel Cut Switch. This can also be a battery cut switch but this particular application allows for smaller wiring and easier concealment. Using a fuel cut switch is about as simple as it sounds. Simply get your self some type of automotive grade electronic switch and use it to manually disconnect the circuit current that runs to your fuel pump. Now when it comes to actual wiring you may want to consult a factory service or Haynes manual, but essentially what you are doing is installing a switch that must be in the on position for the vehicles fuel pump to operate.

As far as mounting the switch you can choose to run the wiring and mount it inside a glovebox or center console but for convenience you could even mount it on the center panel by the radio or on the dash. If using a generic black switch what potential thief is going to know what its for? The real beauty of something this simple is that you can easily flick it off and on when ever you want and choose not to use it all the time and its much more effective than an alarm. The real key is that thieves who steal cars need to do so quickly to avoid attention so after a few minutes of realizing the car is not going to start they will probably just give up. (that is if they could even figure out what is going on)

Costs to do this are basically a few bucks in wire and a generic switch. Quite small considering the trouble it can save you of having your vehicle stolen.
